Es una entidad político administrativa que reúne a diez municipios de la subregión del Valle de Aburrá del departamento de Antioquia. Su municipio principal es Medellín (capital del departamento), segunda ciudad del país tanto en importancia económica como por el número de habitantes. Los otros municipios que la integran son (de sur a norte): Caldas, La Estrella, Sabaneta, Itagüí, Envigado, Bello, Copacabana, Girardota y Barbosa.The Valle de Aburrá Metropolitan Area is the second largest urban agglomeration in Colombia. It is a political-administrative entity that brings together ten municipalities of the Valle de Aburrá subregion of the department of Antioquia. Its main municipality is Medellín (capital of the department), the second city in the country both in economic importance and in terms of the number of inhabitants. The other municipalities that make it up are (from south to north): Caldas, La Estrella, Sabaneta, Itagüí, Envigado, Bello, Copacabana, Girardota and Barbosa.
