Southport is where Gold Coast public libraries began when, in 1957, South Coast Town Council extended the town hall to incorporate South Coast Library, opening in 1958. The current library, which also houses the Local Studies Library, provides a range of flexible spaces for library services, events and meetings. It has a café and outdoor courtyard.
