James and Agnes Gordon (Jamie and Joan’s great-great grandparents) and their children came out from Ireland in 1865 on the ship The Maryborough. They had several farms around the Bowen area: Gordon Glen, Fairymead, Fernvale and a block on Euri Creek. It wasn’t until 1917 that James Gordon (Joan and Jamie’s great granddad) bought Mt Pleasant. The property has been in the family ever since. While the extended family had many properties and businesses in the Bowen and Collinsville district—stations, pubs and butcher shops—the Mt Pleasant Gordons are the only ones still in the area.
