Fundado em 1808 por D. João, então príncipe regente de Portugal, o Jardim Botânico do Rio de Janeiro é famoso pela exuberância e importância de suas coleções de plantas, bem como pela beleza de suas paisagens. Sua história bicentenária se expressa em seus monumentos, construções e obras de arte.
Os visitantes podem passear a pé ou de carro elétrico pelas aleias e ver plantas de diversos países, conhecer as estufas (Orquídeas, Bromélias, Samambaias e Plantas Insetívoras) e os jardins e coleções temáticos, como o Jardim Japonês, criado em 1935 a partir da doação de 65 exemplares de plantas típicas japonesas.
